In Year 8

By year 8 of any development process or lifestyle change you should know for sure if you’ve become a success or its time to pull out.  It’s funny how significant the span of 8 years is in our life.  Elementary and middle school are 8 years long.  High school and college are traditionally the next 8-year span of our lives.  If you want to become a medical doctor, it will generally take 8 years to complete medical school, your internship and your medical residency or specialty.

Likewise, once we graduate from college it takes another 8 years of life in the workplace before we’re really humming, making the level of income we feel we deserve and rightfully worked to obtain.  Around the 8-year mark out of college is when most young people are marrying these days, as the average age of marriage has risen in America in recent years and now stands at 29.

About 8 years into a marriage is when most marriages reach a point of no return.  Experts say that if a marriage can last 8 years, people have a much higher probability of being married for life.  Whereas, if your marriage is going to be short-lived, it is more likely to happen in year 8 than it is in any of the first 7 years.  I think one reason for this is because it’s about that time in life where “middle age crazy” sets in.

Life Comes in 8’s

Isn’t it funny how 8 becomes such an important number in life.  It takes us about 8 years to stop talking like a baby.  It takes 8 years to go from the first grade to high school.  It takes 8 years to complete high school and college, and sometimes 8 years to complete your pre-med and medical college years.

As most people know we are living in the mist of an international oil and gas shortage.  All the easy to find oil has been found.  When we do discover oil and gas in offshore waters the typical reserve life is now only 8 years.  Yes, 8 is a very important number and it exists in many other areas of life.

Where will you be in eight years?  Ask yourself that question.  Do you want to be where you are right now?  Chances are, you don’t.

This is what IY8 is all about . . . making “you” a “better you.”  Better on all bases — financially, spiritually, socially, etc.  If you have money and you’re still not happy, something is wrong.  IY8 explores the secrets to success and how you can achieve it — reaching goals you’ve never dreamed up, totally reinventing a brand new year — in segments of 8.  Eight hours, followed by eight weeks, followed by 8 months and culminating in 8 years.  Each of these milestones will result in a totally “new you” that will be the “you” that others wish to emulate.
